A couple of years ago we noticed that although our fruit trees were absolutely covered in blossoms, there was not a honey bee to be found. That didn’t matter too much when the trees were young and growing, but when it was time for them to start bearing fruit, this was a real problem.
After much research, in 2014 we ordered 4 hives of bees from New Zealand. New Zealand bees are known for their quiet temperament and outstanding productivity. Last year, the pollination in the orchard was incredible and we enjoyed cherries, plums, pears and apples from our garden. We also got an unexpected bounty of comb honey.
